So many of the things I love about it would be an instant DQ for show. The petals do a lovely ombre fade in hot weather that I adore and it throws the occasional pale bloom. The colors of the blooms also change over the course of the season. It starts off smoky pink, shifts to juicy grapefruit during the peak of the summer sun and heat and then settles into a coral pink to end the season.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAnd let's talk about that green center.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe first flush in my garden starts with a green center, or gumball as I am now calling it. I am so glad I didn't immediately toss it the first year because the way it develops is nothing short of amazing. The gumball goes away and the blooms are full 4\" blooms on strong dark stems with a great bloom attachment. Several of my friends that tested Baby Gumball didn't even experience the green center. She tends to start out a little more cream and the petals go more frilly, twisty and curly. She does have some yellow tones. If you are a person who has flowers that go yellow in your garden, you may not like The Special. Later on in the season the petals flatten out and I see more of the pink and purple hues. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n \u003cp\u003eThe plant can be bushy and incredibly sturdy. By the end of the season The Special is usually 5-5.5' in my garden with 4\" blooms.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eShe gets bonus points for being an excellent tuber producer when grown from both a tuber and cutting. The tubers have also been easy to store. It was this feature that made me keep Shy Violet in the first place.
