Let me start off by saying that this is not a show flower. So many of the things I love about it would be an instant DQ for show. The petals do a lovely ombre fade in hot weather that I adore and it throws the occasional pale bloom. The colors of the blooms also change over the course of the season. It starts off smoky pink, shifts to juicy grapefruit during the peak of the summer sun and heat and then settles into a coral pink to end the season.

And let's talk about that green center.

The first flush in my garden starts with a green center, or gumball as I am now calling it. I am so glad I didn't immediately toss it the first year because the way it develops is nothing short of amazing. The gumball goes away and the blooms are full 4" blooms on strong dark stems with a great bloom attachment. Several of my friends that tested Baby Gumball didn't even experience the green center. If you are at all averse to a green centered dahlia then this one may not be for you.
